Ecommerce support has three jobs that generic helpdesk AI wasn't built for: it needs to know your product catalog, pull real order data mid-conversation, and hand off cleanly when a shopper actually needs a human. Most "AI customer support" tools were built for SaaS ticket queues first and bolted ecommerce features on later. We compared 9 tools that market themselves specifically at online stores, on what they actually do, what they cost at a realistic volume, and where each one falls apart.
How we tested
We looked at four things for every tool: how deep the ecommerce integration goes (order lookups, returns, catalog awareness, not just "connects to Shopify"), how transparent the pricing is once you add AI usage on top of the base plan, how fast a non-technical merchant can get it live, and whether the AI actually resolves conversations or just answers FAQs and escalates everything else.
To make the cost comparisons fair, we ran every vendor's pricing through one fixed scenario: 5 support seats and 700 AI-handled conversations a month, using each vendor's cheapest plan that can actually cover that volume. That section is below the table.
The comparison table
Tool | Best for | Starting price | Free plan | AI usage billed as |
|---|
Molin AI | Shopify, Shoprenter, UNAS, Shoper stores wanting both sales and support in one widget | $19/mo/seat | Yes, 25 convos/mo | Included in plan cap |
Re:amaze | Teams wanting flat, predictable per-seat pricing | $26.10/seat/mo | No | Included in plan |
ZipChat | Multi-channel stores (chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram) on one AI brain | $49/mo | No | Included reply allowance, tiered |
Rep AI | Stores wanting sales-assist and support from the same AI, traffic-based pricing | $250/mo (Support only) | No | Session-tier plan |
Chatbase | Teams that want model choice and don't mind managing credits | $40/mo | Yes, 50 credits/mo | Per-response credits, model-dependent |
Tidio | Small stores wanting live chat plus a metered AI add-on | $24.17/mo | Yes, 50 convos/mo | Per-conversation add-on |
Intercom | Teams already invested in Intercom's broader support suite | $19/seat/mo (Fin extra) | No | Per resolution ($0.99) |
Gorgias | Ecommerce brands wanting a Shopify-native helpdesk | $40/mo (not seat-priced) | No | Per automated interaction |
Zendesk | Enterprise support orgs needing compliance and scale | $19/agent/mo (AI extra) | No | Per automated resolution |
What 5 seats and 700 AI conversations actually cost
Sticker prices don't tell you much here, because every vendor meters AI usage differently. Some charge a flat rate no matter how much the AI does. Some charge per resolved conversation. One charges per AI-generated response, and the rate depends on which model you pick. We ran the same scenario, 5 seats, 700 AI conversations a month, through each vendor's own pricing page and picked the cheapest plan that could actually cover it.
Tool | Cheapest viable route | Monthly cost | vs Molin |
|---|
Molin AI | Scale plan ($119) + 4 extra seats ($19 each) | $195 | 1.0x |
Re:amaze | Pro plan, 5 seats @ $44.10, AI bundled | $221 | 1.1x |
ZipChat | Pro plan flat, 3,000 replies/1,250 conversations included | $249 | 1.3x |
Rep AI | Concierge (Sales + Support bundle), 25,000 sessions/mo tier | $263 | 1.3x |
Chatbase | Standard plan + 2 extra seats + overage credits | $264 | 1.4x |
Tidio | Growth plan + 700 Lyro AI conversations at the metered rate | $322 | 1.7x |
Intercom | Essential plan, 5 seats + 700 Fin resolutions at $0.99 each | $838 | 4.3x |
Gorgias | Basic plan + 670 automated interactions over the included quota | $1,082 | 5.5x |
Zendesk | Suite Team, 5 agents + 700 automated resolutions at $1.50 each | $1,325 | 6.8x |
A few things worth knowing before you compare quotes yourself. Rep AI prices on monthly website sessions rather than seats or conversation count, and its Support-only product doesn't include sales-assist, which every other tool here does out of the box, so we used its Sales + Support bundle for a fair comparison. ZipChat meters "replies" rather than conversations, and its own pricing page implies roughly 2.5 replies per conversation. Chatbase bills credits per AI-generated response, not per conversation, at a rate that depends on which model is selected, so picking a stronger model can increase your bill by 50% or more at identical usage. Gorgias isn't priced per seat at all, "never priced per agent" is their own claim, so its cost is driven entirely by ticket and automated-interaction volume. Intercom, Gorgias, and Zendesk figures above use each vendor's cheapest technically-sufficient plan, not their "most popular" tier, so a like-for-like comparison on their popular tiers would show an even bigger gap.
The pattern that matters: flat-fee and traffic-based pricing stays predictable as your AI handles more conversations. Per-resolution pricing does not, and at this volume it's already 4 to 7 times the cost of the cheapest options for identical usage.
Molin AI
Molin is built specifically for ecommerce platforms, Shopify, Shoprenter, UNAS, and Shoper, and trains itself on the shop's live product catalog automatically rather than requiring manual FAQ entry. It answers product questions, tracks orders, recommends products conversationally, and hands off to a human when needed, in 92+ languages. Setup is genuinely code-free: connecting a supported platform gives Molin direct catalog and order access without custom integration work.
Pricing scales by seats and monthly conversation volume rather than by AI usage type, so a merchant doesn't need to predict how many "resolutions" versus "responses" they'll generate, just how many conversations. The Scale plan covers up to 1,250 conversations and 50,000 products at $119/mo before extra seats.
Best for: Shopify, Shoprenter, UNAS, or Shoper merchants who want one AI handling both sales questions and support without stitching together separate tools.

Re:amaze
Re:amaze, now a GoDaddy brand, bundles live chat, a shared inbox, social channels, and an AI agent into flat per-seat pricing starting at $26.10/mo. The AI agent is included at every tier rather than metered separately, which keeps the bill predictable as usage grows. Its strongest features, multi-brand support, live screen-sharing, and staff performance reporting, show up on the higher Pro and Plus tiers.
Best for: Teams that want Gorgias-style ecommerce features without a per-resolution fee stacked on top.

ZipChat
ZipChat runs one AI brain across the website chat widget, email, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, with unlimited team seats on every plan. Pricing is based on monthly "AI replies," and its own documentation shows the replies-to-conversations ratio consistently landing around 2.5 to 1 across all four tiers, worth knowing before you compare its plan sizes to a straight conversation count from another vendor.
Best for: Stores that want a single AI covering every messaging channel, not just the website widget.

Rep AI
Rep AI splits its product into two paid agents: Sales (proactive selling, product recommendations, cart recovery) and Support (order status, returns, cancellations), sold separately or bundled as "Concierge." Pricing is based on monthly website sessions rather than seats, and seats themselves are unlimited on every plan. If you only need support, the standalone Support plan is cheaper, but you lose the proactive-selling half that most competitors on this list include as standard.
Best for: Stores that specifically want the sales-assist and support split priced separately, rather than one bundled AI.

Chatbase
Chatbase is a general-purpose AI agent builder, not ecommerce-specific, but it connects to Shopify and several helpdesks and lets you pick from a wide range of underlying AI models. That flexibility is also its main pricing risk: credits are consumed per AI-generated response, and the credit cost per response ranges from 1 credit on economy models up to 6 credits on the most capable ones. A multi-turn ecommerce conversation involving an order lookup can burn several responses, so the real cost per conversation depends heavily on which model you choose, not just which plan.
Best for: Technical teams that want to choose their own underlying AI model and are comfortable monitoring a credit meter.

Tidio
Tidio pairs a live chat and helpdesk platform with its Lyro AI agent, sold as a metered add-on on top of the base plan. A free tier covers very light usage, and a built-in calculator lets you estimate costs before committing. The catch is that Lyro's per-conversation rate is highest at low volume and only improves meaningfully once you commit to a larger prepaid pack.
Best for: Small stores with low AI conversation volume who want to start free and scale gradually.

Intercom
Intercom's Fin AI Agent is bundled into every plan tier, but billed separately at $0.99 per resolved conversation on top of the per-seat price. Intercom's strength is the broader platform around Fin, multi-channel inboxes, workflow automation, and a private multilingual help center, which makes sense for teams already running support operations at scale, less so for a store just wanting an AI to handle ecommerce conversations.
Best for: Teams that need a full support platform and view the AI agent as one feature among many, not the main event.

Gorgias
Gorgias built its reputation as the Shopify-native helpdesk, and its AI Agent is available on every plan rather than gated to higher tiers. It explicitly does not charge per seat, "helpdesk scales from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month, never priced per agent" is their own positioning. Instead, cost is driven by ticket volume and by a per-automated-interaction fee once you exceed your plan's included quota, which at real ecommerce support volumes adds up quickly.
Best for: Shopify stores that specifically want ticket-based pricing instead of seat-based pricing and don't expect heavy AI usage.

Zendesk
Zendesk markets its AI Agents as part of "the #1 AI customer service solution," and it's the most enterprise-oriented tool on this list; SSO, audit logs, and industry-specific compliance features show up at the higher tiers. Automated resolutions are billed per resolution ($1.50 to $2.00 depending on commitment) on top of per-agent seat pricing, which is the most expensive combination in this comparison at realistic ecommerce support volume.
Best for: Larger support organizations that need enterprise compliance features and already budget for per-resolution AI costs.

The verdict
For a Shopify, Shoprenter, UNAS, or Shoper store that wants one AI to handle both product questions and support without separate sales and support products, Molin is the straightforward pick, and it's also the cheapest at realistic mid-market volume. If you specifically want ecommerce-native ticketing without per-resolution fees, Re:amaze is the closest flat-fee alternative. If your support volume is unpredictable month to month, avoid Intercom, Gorgias, and Zendesk's per-resolution pricing unless you've already modeled your actual usage, since that's where the bill stops being predictable.
